From the deserts of Kutch in Gujarat, comes an exquisite form of art known as the Kutchi Embroidery. For centuries, artisans from the local rural community have been involved in using Kutchi embroidery to make various items such as bags, jackets, footwear and even jewellery. This beautiful handbag has been handmade by the skilful hands of women of the Ahir community in Kutch. This style of Kutchi embroidery is called Ahir Bharat or Ahir embroidery. It is done in dense chain stitches and small mirrors.
Kutch Craft Collective is a collaborative platform of 5 organizations from Kutch and was formed to revive the old crafts of Kutch while creating livelihood opportunities for the artisan families. Amongst the 5 organizations of KCC, Kala Raksha, an NGO community settled in Kutch.
