description
Handcrafted in pure silk, this is an eye-catching cushion cover with intricate Kantha hand embroidery. Paired with cushions from across our range, it's the perfect addition to your homes for an understated richness or a festive look. Well known as 'the running stitch', Kantha is the simplest form of embroidery practiced in West Bengal, Tripura and Odisha. Traditionally, old sarees were stitched together in layers to make quilts using the Kantha stitch. Rural women in Bengal still use old sarees and cloth to make light blankets and throws by layering them and stitching them with Kantha embroidery. The running stitch gives the fabric a slightly wavy appearance and texture which feels soft to the skin. The embroidery motifs are typically floral, animal and nature-inspired, as well as inspired by the daily lives of the rural women.
