Chanderi is a small town in Madhya Pradesh, that hosts one of the most famous handloom clusters and is home to the much sought after hand woven sarees in silk, silk cotton and cotton. It is renowned for the intricately textured cotton and silk fabrics acclaimed for their sheer texture, light weight and luxurious drape.

The history of Chanderi weaves dates back to the eleventh century. At that time, the town was a major route for trading because of it's proximity to the old ports of the Deccan and Central India (particularly Malwa). There are references to  Chanderi silk sarees dating back to 1200 B.C in the Rig Veda and the Mahabharata. This makes this weave a treasure and an absolute must have for avid saree lovers.
