description
Painted by celebrated Pichwai artist Sushil Soni, this exquisite Pichwai painting combines three most iconic motifs, portraying Lord Krishna or Shrinathji’s head on top of a lotus in the centre. He is surrounded by depictions of six Kamdhenu, the divine cow of plenty, on top of each lotus.
Pichwai paintings originated in Nathdwara, Rajasthan almost 5 centuries ago and are traditionally used as the backdrop of the Krishna idol in the sanctum of the Pushtimarg temples. The term Pichwai is derived from the Sanskrit word ‘pich’, which means ‘back’ and ‘wai’, which means ‘hanging’. These devotional, painted wall-hangings vividly depict tales from Krishna’s life.
