  • description

This seal is very special for us because it was the inspiration for our name – Peepul Tree! This Harappan seal is considered the earliest representation of the Peepul Tree in Indian art. Its scientific name is Ficus religiosa, or sacred fig, and it is native to India. The Peepul Tree has great significance across three religions in the subcontinent – Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism. The Bodhi Tree under which the Buddha gained enlightenment was a Peepul Tree.

This seal depicts two unicorns under a Peepul Tree. In fact, the Peepul Tree and its iconic heart-shaped leaves are a popular theme across Harappan seals.

Do note that these replicas are much larger than the original Harappan seals, to allow you to use them as wall hangings or showcase them. Each seal comes framed and has a provision at the back to both hang the frame or leave it standing on a flat table.
