description
Our elegant Kalamkari cotton dhurries are handwoven by weavers and hand-blockprinted by skilled artisans .
The craftsmen known as 'Kalamkars' print patterns with vegetable dyes on cotton using blocks, mainly bearing designs of Persian motifs. Kalamkari textiles were also used to make ‘qanats’ or tent hangings for the Mughal camps. At one time, Kalamkari was a rage across the world! The old port town of Machilipatnam has its own unique, block printing style of Kalamkari, influenced by history. The most used colors here are Blue, Red and Black.
