The Jagannath Temple in Puri, is famous for its Rath Yatra and draws lakhs of pilgrims each year. This Pattachitra depicts Lord Jagannath in his iconic totem-like appearance. Its beauty is enhanced by the floral designs on the borders all of this is done using natural colours.
Made up of two words: ‘Patta’ meaning cloth and ‘Chitra’ meaning image, Pattachitra is an art form that emerged from Puri (Odisha) where images of the deities and their chronicles are painted on a piece of cloth. This piece is made by a National Award winning artist Niranjan Moharana.
