description
The popular game of snakes and ladders has a very ancient origin. This game was originally known as Gyan Chauper or Moksha Patam and was designed to inculcate moral values in children. This Snakes and ladders game set is a mini quilt covered with patchwork and embroidery done by artisans from Kutch, Gujarat who specialize in the beautiful Suf and Khareek embroidery work. The playing pieces are handcrafted leather coins and the dice is carved from wood.
In the ancient version of this game, the squares with ladders stood for virtues and those with snakes stood for vices. The Britishers took inspiration from this game and created their own version around the 19th century which is now the popular Snakes and Ladders.
