Wooden Wire Enamelled Prism Evening Bag
A small and stunning bag made from natural wood inlaid with brass wires, creating a beautiful geometric repeat pattern using a 500-year-old art form called Tarqashi.
The bag features a leather trim running along the sides and a zipper opening. The lining showcases a contrast block-printed fabric, with a center zippered pocket partition. The detachable brass sling chain, coupled with the understated glimmer of the fine Tarqashi work, makes this bag ideal for any special occasion.
As the name suggests, Tarqashi is the technique where thin strips of wire or "tar" are engraved on the surface of the wood.
The art of Tarqashi involves several processes, each requiring unique skills like preparing the wood, cutting the metal wires, engraving the designs and inlaying it with the wire
Tarqashi Inlay is believed to have originated from Mainpuri in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. The craft was patronized by the royals of Jaipur and Amber.
Today only a handful of artisans are carrying on this craft.
