The Royal Courtyards Collection – A Celebration of Colour, Craft, and Culture
In India, art has never been confined to a single medium. It flows — from the brush of a miniature painter to the carved jaalis of a haveli, from the folds of a sari to the painted walls of a palace. As an artist and designer, I have always been fascinated by the fluidity of art and the interplay of colours, motifs, and stories embedded within every canvas.
Our Royal Courtyards Collection is an ode to the timeless beauty of the art found on the walls and courtyards of Rajasthan’s palaces. While it is deeply inspired by tradition, I have sought to give it a modern interpretation through the motifs, patterns, and colours used, echoing the refined charm of traditional Rajasthani decorative items.
A Play of Colours and Motifs
Our collection draws deeply from the Rose Gate of the City Palace in Jaipur — one of the most iconic doorways in India, featuring a modern-looking rose as its central motif. Said to signify winter and dedicated to the Goddess, the artwork on the Rose Gate showcases a beautiful interplay of colour. Deep pinks and terracotta tones sit gracefully on a bed of green.
For me, the Rose Gate and its artwork (the other three gates represent spring, summer, and autumn) are a reminder that winter need not be dark and deep — it can be a season of light tones, quiet beauty, and gentle vibrancy.
We have used a symphony of pinks, greens, terracottas, and intricate floral carvings as inspiration and added a range of new patterns - bold stripes, traditional butas, and evergreen chevrons.
We began with the dusty pinks and terracotta hues that define the architecture of Jaipur - warm, sunlit, and earthy. Around them, we layered sage greens and soft blues - colours that echo frescoed walls, faded murals, and hand-painted ceilings seen across Rajasthan’s palaces. This palette evokes the opulence of a bygone era, reinterpreted in hues that feel fresh and effortlessly stylish, echoing the rich visual language beautifully reflected in curated Rajasthani home decor items online.
Motifs and Inspiration
The motifs used in this collection are inspired by traditional palace ornamentation — yet they have been reinterpreted for a modern home:
motifs and vines reminiscent of royal gardens
Geometric jaalis that mirror the lattice screens filtering light in royal courtyards
Stripe patterns inspired by old flooring and woven canopies
When placed together, these motifs create a rhythmic dialogue — a conversation between tradition and minimalism. The stripes add structure and balance, while the motifs lend softness and nostalgia.
In some designs, you’ll see the jaali merge with a stripe or a border that borrows from both geometry and nature, echoing the very essence of Rajasthani architecture, where order and ornamentation coexist seamlessly.
This collection has been handcrafted by master artisans who have imbued each piece with their own signature flourishes— from the hand printers of Sanganer, the skilled weavers of Amroha, to the intricate Lippan craftsmen of Kutch. Together, their diverse traditions and exceptional craftsmanship come alive in this vivid, living tribute to India’s heritage and the craftsmanship long associated with Jaipur handicrafts.
A Timeless Expression of Design Balance
Ultimately, Courtyards is more than a collection. It is a timeless expression of design balance - where geometry gives discipline, florals give emotion, and together they form a visual language that feels effortless. It can sit in any home, anywhere in the world!
