It is also identified as the ancient city of Tosali of Mauryan King Ashoka (3rd BCE)
Did you know that the Kallanai Dam built across the Cauvery River in Tamil Nadu is one of the oldest water-regulating structures in the world? It was originally built by an early Chola King Karikalan, who according to Sangam literature, ruled in 145 BCE. Located in Thanjavur District, the dam has been in use ever since.
Did you know that one of the finest examples of Maratha architecture is a recreated room named ‘Mastani Mahal’ in the Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum in Pune? It was originally a part of the palace built for Mastani, the second wife of the 18th century Maratha Peshwa Bajirao I, in Kothrud, near Pune. Mastani Mahal was built some distance from Shaniwarwada, the residence of the Peshwas, as she was not accepted by the rest of the family. The palace fell into despair and was later recreated.
