The Bastar region is home to some of the oldest tribes of India. It is also home to some of the richest deposits of iron ore in India. The tradition of metal work would have started as a means to provide implements and weapons for the tribes. But over time this became a form of representative art, reflecting the cultural identity of the communities living here.
Today this Bastar metal work has evolved into a revered artistic form that enjoys universal appeal.
